An affordable portable device for rapid, on-site antimicrobial sensitivity testing in clinical samples.
Antimicrobial sensitivity testing is required to select appropriate antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. Normally, it takes 1-2 days to get the result, and facilities to perform such tests are not available in remote areas. The Invention provides easy to perform, rapid (2-6 hours) system for field-level antimicrobial sensitivity testing, without the requirement of a laboratory. It has potential applications in veterinary medicine to select appropriate antibiotics to treat mastitis. The overall cost to perform the test is less than Rs 50/test. The technology has been transferred to the ACS Neoteric Technologies, Hyderabad.
